Dear Christ Central families,

Hello! *elbow bump*

With the announcement that our Christ Central community will not be having in-person worship services at both campuses for the next 3 Sundays, we immediately thought about how that would impact our beloved children and families. We wanted to take this opportunity to provide a resource to you so that you have the option of family worship with your child(ren).

The goal here is not to mimic a Sunday Children's worship but to provide a time for your family to worship together at home. This may be very foreign and overwhelming to some of you, but I want to encourage you to give it a try and see where the Lord leads.

Please use the lesson and suggested instructions below as a launching pad for your worship time. Also, we would love to hear back from our families! If you have any comments or feedback, please email eric@christcentralsc.com. We're here to help and be a resource to you.

My prayers are over your families. May the Lord be glorified through it, and always, may you and your family be blessed as we draw closer to Jesus.

In Him,
Eric Cho
Children’s Ministry Director (Fullerton Campus)

5. The Bible Story

[Note to Parents: As you share today’s Bible Story, remind them that Jesus came because we needed Him. The purpose of Jesus’ birth was twofold: to bring glory to God and to make peace between God and those who trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection. You have the option to read the story to them or I would encourage you to tell the story in a way that your kids will understand better.]

The Story of Jesus’ Birth: During the census, it was time for Mary to have her baby. Mary and Joseph tried looking for a safe place to stay, but every place was full. So Mary and Joseph found a place where animals were kept, and that is where Mary had her baby. Joseph named Him Jesus. Mary wrapped the baby tightly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough. Jesus was born in a manger.

Why do you think Joseph named the baby Jesus? [Look at Matthew 1:21]. The name Jesus means “Savior.”

The night Jesus was born, there were shepherds watching over their sheep in the fields near Bethlehem. Suddenly, an angel stood before them and the glory of the Lord shone around them. The shepherds were terrified!

Imagine being a shepherd in the dark hills and all of a sudden an angel appears and the glory of the Lord shines all around them. That is terrifying. Do you remember what the angel said to them? [Look at Luke 2:10-12].

Suddenly, a whole army of angels appeared, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors!”

When the angels left, the shepherds decided to go see if the angel’s words were true. When they found Mary, Joseph and the baby, they were amazed. The shepherds went and told others about the baby Jesus, that Jesus was born to be God’s promised Savior! Everyone who heard about Jesus was amazed.

Christ Connection: The birth of Jesus was good news! Jesus was not an ordinary baby. He is God’s Son, sent to earth from heaven. Jesus, the promised Savior, came into the world to deliver us from sin and death.

6. Family Discussion Questions1. Why do you think God sent Jesus to ordinary people, instead of someone wealthy or powerful?
2. Why was Jesus' birth good news?
3. Why should we tell others about Jesus?

8. Lord’s Prayer
Close your family worship by reciting The Lord’s Prayer together.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
